Welcome to Gear Riders General, the general thread (for now) for Gear Riders! it's a game i made based very very very much off Sonic Riders. you can play it here!
this thread is like the hub for Gear Riders discussion but that doesn't mean there can't be any other threads based on the game, I just wanted to make this thread to get some convos going.

had problems with the ramps, it slows me down so much even with a consistent amount of speed

If we really get a 2nd gear riders game. Would there be an option to customize our gear?
and I'm talking FULL customization. - Custom boards - Colors of our choice - Custom trail

yeah that would be cool...
my personal hopes for gear riders 2(if it comes out) is that it has a story and not a big story and it doesn't have to even be that serious like it can just be a tournament. but I hope for at least a story and maybe a boss type thing where you vs off and if you win you get the faster board the opponent NPC used and if you loose then uhhh nothing happens. but in gr2 I do hope it barrows a few elements from zero gravity but not too much.

In the meantime though, I really do think Gear Riders 2 should keep the mechanics of the first Sonic Riders game, don't know about y'all but I don't see the appeal of the Gravity system. I do however, wish to see all the Zero Gravity maps (Aquatic Capital map please, its my aesthetic) as they have so much potential. Maps and core mechanics aside, I want to see what polish you have in mind with the sequel to GR2. I personally want to see the types (Power, Flight, Speed) have more definition, with the ring rewards being akin to say "Extra speed" or "Less knockback" (if the push mechanic were to be introduced. This also brings the best opportunity to make use of the "GEAR CHANGE" voice lines from zero gravity, it fits perfectly into Gear Riders and it just sounds so cool). I also want to see Ultimate's idea of customization for boards being a thing, I do love the BlueStar board but I really want to change the colors and trail. If customizable boards aren't an option, I just hope they aren't as expensive as GR's game pass boards. I'd also like to see little obstacles that the player can use, like those poles you can use to spin around and flip onto a higher platform or those water slides, as well as a functional drift system. Overall, loved the first Gear Riders and I'm gonna be content with any new content the second game brings, just make sure its polished and not buggy

i will say straight up though, it's gonna come after PA3, if GR2 comes, and development is therefore gonna be starting in 2025 if SuperJumpman12 is still onboard by then.
but that's not to say i'm not already daydreaming about it. SJ12 is hardcore wanting to build GR2 off the PA3 engine, so that means we could get slopes, antigrav, and a SUPER smooth racing experience. i'm confident SJ12 could help create those cool gimmicks like the poles, and the water slides, and no doubt the drifting system (with Air you have to manage!)
as you could tell with Splash Canyon in GR1, i was pushing the roblox physics to its limit with the kinda of looping and slopes i wanted in the maps. with the PA3 engine, there's total freedom to make awesome tracks
i'm a staunch Riders 1 fan too. the Air management system is already pretty in-depth and complicated for people who step into Riders expecting it to be sci-fi Mario Kart. i don't want to muddy things up too bad.
one of my favorite games ever is Phantasy Star Online 2, and a lot of that has to do with the amount of customization you have over yourself. for GR2, i want player types (Speed, Power, Fly like you said), the ability to customize your board model and the colors, your voice, and more stuff like your body type, a pin, etc. MAYBE you can even customize your small, medium, and large tricks. that would be sick!
fun fact, Gear Riders 1 was the first game i ever really programmed where I finally "understood" how to program on Roblox and stuff. with that said, i had no idea what i was doing with the monetization and it's pretty insane cuz of that.
since then i've mellowed out with monetization. World Hockey Online, for example, handles its insane level of customization (there's that c word again!) with an in-game currency that's earned by playing the game (and buying IF you're really that impatient). Hyper Shot is the same way, but there's no purchasing the in-game currency at all currently.
that's a long-winded way of saying, for all these customization features, i want every player to be able to engage with them regardless if they pay or not. more games need to be made out of love for the craft and respect for the players. too many games now (AAA and Roblox) are just built to be a vessel to suck money out of people now. with very little passion actually being exhibited for the game itself or anything deeper than just taking the players' money

i can't tell you how many things i'd love to do if PA3 weren't looming over our heads! a GR2 is one of them, ever since i saw how GR1 is still somehow active. i love PA3 to death, but it's such a massive project, and with the deadline fast approaching, we can't really afford to focus on much else right now. so for now, i simply just sit here with hearts floating above my head thinking about a hypothetical GR2 made with the PA3 engine.
