This is a topic that has been discussed quite a bit on roblox and some other parts of the internet, but I have never been able to come to a satisfactory conclusion on it. Basically the topic of this thread is... What happens with Bell Hoppers? I am aware that Gear Riders is going through a similar situation, but I would like to focus the thread on a specific game to avoid generalities and be able to deal with more specific and tangible things. What prevents the game from forming an active community?, What prevents this game from achieving an active player base that allows you to enjoy the game as it is intended to be done?, Regardless of whether such a thing could be a no-brainer or something that nobody talks about Since it's seemingly self-evident, I'd like to hear the opinions and thoughts of people, developers, and anyone directly involved with the game.

it's a pretty good question and something that honestly plagues a lot of Vuga games that aren't Pyrite Adventure related. my two cents is that i feel like it's mostly just popularity-based. most people don't know it exists so its hard for a community to form around it. Bell Hoppers is super addicting to me, so i don't feel like it's the game that's the issue and that's why i think it's popularity-based. Movie Sonic Simulator got super popular because a popular YouTuber played it, and i think even to this day people are still playing MSS a lot ever since that video. and that video came out years ago. with advertising on Roblox becoming less and less effective, it kinda feels like we're just waiting around for the right (i.e. a very popular) person to stumble upon it, make a video, and then have an active player base form from there.

it's hard to say what exactly keeps a game from taking off, but i'm sure, like what marbley was saying, popularity's got a lot to do with it. a game like Bell Hoppers needs other players to work, really, but without those players, no one wants to play. it's sadly like a loop. building even a small enough amount of people to keep the game active is really hard to do without an outside boost, like marbley said.
i did have one last idea--aside from consistent updates--to give the game more stickiness, and that's adding some long-term goals. there could be cool expensive stuff to buy in the shop, stuff that'll actually save when you leave the game, maybe stuff you can unlock the more you play...just reasons to continue joining and playing consistently, so that it isn't just something you play a few rounds of and then hop off for the next month or so.
even still, i've joked with marbley a lot that i HATE!!! Bell Hoppers. it's not actually true, i still do love the game, but it's hard to find a reason to give it the updates it needs when i know that, ultimately, it'll end with the game still being dead, and my time and effort is basically wasted. i'd much rather put that energy into something like Pyrite Adventure 3.
that being said, is there anything people feel is missing from the game, besides more stages? even if i can't guarantee it'll be added, i wanna keep my eyes out for stuff i might not be seeing.

This also plagues many of our non-3D pLatformer games, we like our games and like fan feedback but they get way less attention than our 3D Platformers. We find it hard to update our old horror games when we could re-release Pyrite Adventure: The Lasting Course and fix all these issues people complained on launch about. We are starting to head out of the dark hole, but it is just popularity based. It is sad to see Hyper Shot, Gear Riders, and Bell Hoppers dead like this because I think Hyper Shot is my favorite Vuga game but there is just no one around to play with.

Good example of a game that went from literally 10 players to a hundred is Blox Cards. The main director running the entire game (Icytea) is quite popular on roblox and has a bunch of connections to hundreds of youtubers, and managed to get snyfort to wake up from his grave and drop a 2ND trailer for the game. Also I think advertising on Roblox can work, it's more luck based in that classic style AND here is another factor of why games like bell hoppers die fast Let's just say that a bunch of people decided to optimize the game and found a strat to win every game. Now the new players that join easily quit because they can't fight back against the strat because they don't know how to counter it. The skill gap is so big and due to less players playing the game it's incredibly hard to make tutorials on how to win every round. Nobody wins in the end. So basically I dunno, waiting kinda does nothing ig its gonna take 5 years till a youtuber comes across it

From what I've noticed on Roblox, a lot of games, and I mean a lot of games, tend to not really get noticed unless it has some sort of Gacha mechanics and appeals to the young crowd, and I mean the very young crowd, it's made it hard for me to find Roblox games to play for my channel since it's the exact same thing, a simulator, a game for the very young crowd, or is plagued with microtransactions, I want to play a game, not play EA Simulator where I have to pay 500 Robux to unlock the jump button, I realize that's a huge exaggeration, but it's kind of sad that a lot of games I see on Roblox nowadays are almost like carbon copies of each other, in a way it sort of discourages creativity, in a way, it makes me glad that I discovered Vuga, since it's finally a break from what I constantly see on the front page

thank you, and also, I KNOW! it's so hard to find new games on roblox in general, because imo the site kind of does a poor job at showing you new things. i hardly ever play roblox just for fun anymore because i feel like ive played all there is to play on the front page, which is the only place to really find games.

i second the sentiment that lunathegamer and SuperJumpman12 have; it's REALLY hard to find Roblox games that'll actually hook me anymore. i haven't played roblox in a long time because of what both of y'all said, it's just impossible to find the good stuff. and there IS good stuff hidden on the site. it's just going unnoticed

I relate to all of you. it is hard to find good games and it is starting to make me play Roblox less and less. That is why I just play other games than Roblox when recording now because I just can't find a good game due to Roblox's terrible discovery. I made a rant about it other day on Discord.

Make sure to charge 500 robux for a jump button, and 1,000 robux to move, also charge 1 robux for every jump, and put advertisements everywhere XD

When you lose the other people should immediately spam the audio "Sir, this is a Wendy's." and then require you to pay 100 robux to keep playing. LOL EA Strategy

I feel like for some games to be a *bit* more active you need an established an active community. Maybe like hold events or something. For Hyper Shot what we usually do is hold tournaments every season and that's when a ton of people get active and then the game gets more players than the usual. Obviously it dies down every now and then but it instantly gets revived the moment an event is hosted

Oh, I know its been a year by now, but I might know the real answer UPDATES for a game to be actively thriving in a community, they need to constantly feed the community more stuff. That means updates. It worked successfully with S:RP but never with the other games because they never get updated. Look at bell hoppers, gear riders, and Hypershot(however it did get an update last summer so it doesn't really count on the list bobba). Both are dying due to neglegance. Its better to manage the projects and not manage too much at once and start a new one. Im a dev myself so I understand like dropping a project to work on another one bobba. COMMUNITY SERVERS people like talking about the game and finding others to play. This website CAN work, but the problem is there is zero links to it. Even worse your only option is to use discord, or you can use twitter with this website pinned to the profile. Otherwise you need a place to discuss the game with many other people. With a community, you can end up finding someone who makes content for the game which can get many, many others to play the game. Combat Initiation has done this perfectly (however I think it got super lucky because youtubers really liked the game as for this one it hasnt gotten any attention due to lack of community stuff/being overeliant on the roblox groups which is a very bad move!!!)

There is literally no way to get a higher chance of making a game popular than making a community discord server. Idk what to tell you besides that you cant link the forum to the game. Sure you can use guilded but atleast use a community server for such things. When you have a community it attracts attention. Bell Hoppers would have been active if it was the case. Many people would look at the game and be like "This game is so good, shame it has no community servers or a discord server". And if you're worried about who is responsible with the server, theres always the guy running the discord/guilded server. Making a community server helps capitalize chances of actually getting players instead of a stagnant 10 players everyday
"Oh then how did S:RP get popular?"
RP games attract lots of kids. It's no surprise that game gets popularity. For certain niches like that where there is no competition or objective, theres obviously no use for a discord or a guilded server.
