I've observed some of the particle effects in PA1 and 2, and have not yet found any sources in the Toolbox. Where can I get good particle sources from? (correct me if I'm wrong)

most of PA2's particles just came from SA1 textures! part of it too is just learning how to get the most out of ParticleEmitters. theyre intimidating at first, but once you play around with all the properties and see how they affect it, it's not so hard. are there any particles in particular that stood out to you?

Like in Mystic Ruins the waterfall effect. Or in the City of PA2 where the water appears animated. And also in PA1 in Chaos City where there's fire particles on the buildings and roads. And also that one section where an explosion happens during one segment.

actually, i think the texture to those water particles specifically i made by editing a google image, haha. but you'd be surprised what you can find on google. the ParticleEmitters themselves are pretty simple. the fountain in the PA2 city just has the Y value of Acceleration in the negatives while the EmissionDirection is on Top. the explosions in Chaos City are just a really simple explosion particle that's told to emit when the player touches an invisible brick. you can just write in the code
part.ParticleEmitter:Emit(3) in a .Touched function if you want to do something like that.

The thing is I technically did find the SA1 textures, but they're grouped as one whole image meaning I would have to extract one by one. The textures are from The Textures Resource.

The textures are from The Textures Resource. if you're talking about how the textures are animated frame-by-frame with all the different frames laid out onto one sheet, don't worry. we didn't animate the textures at all in PA2, they're just one static texture with all the movement handled by the ParticleEmitter properties. you can do it semi-easily nowadays with Flipbook Particles, but i wouldn't worry about that if you're just starting to get used to particles. And also in PA2 when the player touches Water you make a particle emit? yup! i just used one of those .Touched functions to have it emit when the player touches it
