WHO HERE ON THE FORUMS MENTIONED SOMETHING A WHILE BACK ABOUT ADDING HAPTICS/CONTROLLER VIBRATIONS TO THEIR GAME?
I've been searching for a couple minutes but I can't find your post! it might've been in the shoutbox. regardless, feel free to show yourself whenever you read this, because I just got done doing a demo run of implementing controller feedback in PA3!
i used Final Rush as the testing grounds and hoh boy, it's sick. your controller vibrates with springs, grind rails, and more. and the vibrations are all scaled and proportional to each other, too.
it's going to take forever to add it to everywhere else in the game, but it's gonna be so cool. whoever you were that mentioned adding haptics to your game, know that you inspired this addition to PA3 and it's like basically your contribution! you can take credit for this. i was directly inspired by you. it was an AWESOME IDEA

Looking to get some more work done this weekend! i DID finish yet another stage of that other thing, and i'm halfway through another new one. so that's 2 stages still in progress, but with another one finished now.
i'm loving that other thing, because i'm doing stage themes and locales i've never done before so it's been lots of fun

Update from the weekend!
Made some good progress on Cannon's Core, although I'd always like to do more than I have.
This stage is all about testing your skills and determining if you're truly worthy of finishing PA3, and therefore, the entire series. Lots of stuff gets thrown at you right off the bat and there's some mental switching you're gonna have to do between reacting fast to situations, and figuring out puzzles.
So far, I'm around 1:30 into the first segment of Cannon's Core. Meaning, that's about how long it takes to play right now. That's not adjusting for first-time players though, I would honestly say this segment will probably take newcomers double that (3:00) to get through.
But with that said, I'm not building out the stage until a certain time threshold, instead I'm really trying to make sure each section adequately challenges the player. So far I think the first section is coming along well, but I'd like to do a bit more still.
Hopefully more progress comes soon! Thanks for readin'

Making another update today!
About :30 has been added onto Cannon's Core, but the great part is that with that :30 chunk done, I've basically finished a whole segment of the stage! Granted, there's gotta be five sections (one for each character), but still. Some progress is always better than no progress!
With that said, there's still a little more I'd like to do for this section, but it's almost done and the fact it's almost done is super exciting.
And now... i go to sleep

posting another update! this one is actually like an aggregate of the past week. SJ12 and I have been working on stuff but we haven't been reporting out to y'all every day because we've been working just a little here and there (and also at crazy late times at night).
the GOOD NEWS is that SJ12 imported and created a lot of functionality in Cannon's Core, mainly that you can switch characters in-engine now without having to be teleported to a new game instance or something like that. so Cannon's Core will be its own single stage with no teleporting. that's SUPER COOL! I don't know how he did it. meanwhile, i wrapped up the first section of CC too! and work now begins on the second section.\
the funny/weird/neat news is that i've tested and finished compatibility for the Sega Dreamcast controller! if you're somehow nostalgic about SA2 on the original SDC, well good news for you if you buy a SDC controller to USB adapter (and download another program... i'll have to make a tutorial thread here when PA3 releases) you can play PA3 seamlessly!
what made compatibility an... interesting... nut to crack is that the Dreamcast controller has no bumper buttons, no select/home/plus/minus buttons, and no right stick. so i had to get creative and find interesting ways to get it all working.
but alas! it is now working. and it is silly. it's probably the worst way to play PA3 honestly (or maybe mobile would be, hmm), but it's not actually too bad itself. it's really fun if you wanna be quirky and pretend you're playing an old school game though.
more work probably incoming this weekend, so i'll of course be posting here more as we get more done!

I'm excited to see how they tackle the voices, considering they aren't doing full voice acting..

still working on City Escape and Cannon's Core!
fortunately over the weekend we finished the last of the building/home prefabs for the stage (i hope), and we've been working on some stuff for the treasure hunting-style segments of Cannon's Core. that first room Rouge spawns in? it took me three hours to recreate that last night! it took way longer than i thought.
but the cool part is now we can get started mixing things up and doing our own stage design. it just really helps having some rooms and platforms and other prefabs to start

THANKS FOR TUNING INTO THE PYRITE ADVENTURE 3 DEVELOPMENT LIVETHREAD!!
here's this weekend's updates so far:
2/5 Cannon's Core sections are now done! SJ12 is gonna "check my work" on the second section and between you and me i would be shocked if he didn't make it a little easier. i can barely get any clean runs through it while testing it, but there's a lot of close calls that make me scream and have fun
i think Cannon's Core will be a really big test for you, and there might be moments when you wanna quit. it's the final level of the whole entire series, so i DO want it to be tough, but we'll also work on tuning it so that you're not just having to play, say, PA1 Baconhair Base 5 times over. imagine how insane that would be if that was the case
there's still lots of time left in the day today (i'm on the west coast of the usa so my timezone is really early), and i'm feelin a little City Escape inspiration so i might actually START the level design on that stage, too. this whole time for City Escape we've just been prepping it by building buildings, loading in textures, building background objects, and so forth.
we really love City Escape and want to do it right. admittedly, we've probably been overprepping for it. SJ12 and I have played and watched lots of footage of SA2 and Generations City Escape, and I think we are definitely ready to start actually designing it now.
