it's the game that's always lurking in the Vuga shadows... always teased, and never having an official launch date... IT'S WORLD HOCKEY ONLINE!
i've been working on this for a couple years now (or six years, if you count all the other hockey games i've ever tried making) and i'm excited how it'll shape up!
i want this game to be easy to pick up and play (arcade styled), give you lots of ways to express yourself and customize your things, and just overall be fun to play!
i'm making sure it's done-done before i announce a release date (i don't want it to release half-baked), and it's pretty close to being done-done!
but i've had nowhere to post updates on it, and i've wanted to show off a lot of WIP stuff that so far hasn't really been worthy of posts anywhere on Vuga's social media.
SO HERE YOU GO! it's the WHO thread. i will post stuff in here occasionally, mostly screenshots!

MAKE YOUR OWN ARENA!!
This is something i've always wanted in sports video games in general, not even just a hockey game. i've wanted to be able to mix and match parts to make my own arena.
my hope is that this appeals to the arena and stadium community, and maybe those folks could even just play WHO for its arena designer to get inspiration for their own builds on Roblox!
here's a video from a while ago showing how the arena designer will work. changes still to come, but this system will basically be the same for launch:

CUSTOMIZE YOUR EQUIPMENT!
there's sticks, gloves, skates, two kinds of jerseys (plus crests), goal songs, and celebrations. i want this game to be like an MMORPG in terms of how much stuff you can customize and mix and match.

here's something i've been working on and just finished up today: outdoor game mode!
i'm planning it so that, during January, a special arena is available for everyone to choose when they're creating lobbies: Frozen Stadium!
host your own outdoor games with your friends, for your leagues, and whatnot!

I FIXED THE IMAGES!
and today i polished up some of the On-Ice Helper/Guide Graphics too, notice the gradient above the boards and in the background you can see the shield icon above your net you're supposed to be defending
during playtesting so far, players that have never played or watched ice hockey before were getting really confused where to go. i know we (us sports folks) wouldn't have a problem navigating the rink, but i want to make the game as accessible as possible for everyone.
and of course there's an option to disable to On-Ice Guides too  |

i've also been adding a lot of details to the gameplay too, check this for example:
compared to the gameplay video published to Vuga's YT last year, here's all the differences in even just this one goal-scoring clip: - There's A REF!! and he signals for a goal when you score a goal
- the goalie has an "aw shucks i just let in a goal" animation
- strobe lights rain down on and blind the away goalie when the home team scores (but not in Frozen Classic mode, cuz there's no rafters to hang those lights from)

I wanted to add an All-Star Game mode to WHO, but obviously the usual East vs West format wasn't gonna work (since there's no geographical locations or canon league or anything). but i still wanted the All-Star Game to have a special team setup
and then i remembered... you can choose which national team you rep in-game...
so i'm dusting the cobwebs off this old format that hardcore hockey fans might remember!! and i finished making these logos just now today.
i present to you...
